Social media has become an important part of our everyday life. Worldwide, there are 3.80 billion social media users. 

In Tanzanian, a large number of youths are avid users of these social platforms such Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. We use these tools to stay connected and informed. But most of us tend to be so well informed about issues surrounding our celebrities

We are active on social media, and that’s not always a bad thing. But are we making the most of it? 

You have probably heard about people who have won scholarships, competitions, deals, got job and all these exciting opportunities after seeing them from social media, and you were left asking, ‘which Instagram are these winners using?’ Well, they get information about opportunities the same way you get information about Diamond Platnumz divorcing Tanasha. 

If you don’t want to miss out on important opportunities, or want to do more with social media, here is how you can benefit from these platforms, the same ones that winners are using:

Join groups or conversations that resonate with you

Don’t be up to date with everything. That’s draining. Be well informed about issues that really matter to you. Be it social change, world issues, sports or anything else. You need to have an information diet, you can’t take anything in. Focus and engage on content that resonate with you only. Celebrity dramas is entertaining but time wasting. 

Find your tribe and connect with them

Follow people who do things you love doing. If you’re a digital marketer, find and connect with people in the digital marketing industry. You can also have  virtual mentors on social media who inspire you and give you lessons through their posts. because all these people who live our dream lives, post about it. Why not learn and be mentored?

Brand yourself well

I used to hate this word, because I believe people are not brands. But again, your social media persona should just be you. Don’t fake things because people will notice. Understand who you aspire to become and try your level best to stay out of trouble on social media. 

Follow accounts that post opportunities 

There are a lot of accounts and blogs  that share opportunities and organizations that do things that you like. In 2018, I went to Malawi to work with When the Saints, an organization that works with girls who have been sexually abused. I got into contact with them after just I read about them from my favourite blog. I reached out to the founder and I got the opportunity to work with the organization for for three months.

Use your account to share your passion

I love blogging, and my Instagram is full of pictures and long captions (inspiring people and sharing tips), my Twitter is full of me connecting with other bloggers in the word. You love photography, share what you capture on your account, sell what you make, share your love for things etc. You might gain a following and might as well become an influencer. People pay bills using their social media accounts these days, why not you?

And those are the ways I think we can benefit from these digital platforms.

Siku hizi hata vikao vya Sendoff na harusi vinaendeshwa kwenye magrupu ya WhatsApp. Kama bado umejiunga kwenye magrupu ya kipuuzi, basi umebaki wewe tu na wapuuzi wachache. Wenzako tunasaka fursa!

Hivi ni vitu ambavyo huwezi kuviona kwa mtu anayetumia WhatsApp ya kawaida.

Hapa unaweza kuchambua na kupangilia namba za WhatsApp ulizonazo katika makundi mbalimbali ya wateja. Kwa mfano unaweza kumwekea alama (label) kama vile mteja mpya, aliyelipa, asiyelipa, aliyetoa oda mpya na aliyemaliza oda yake.

Jinsi ya kuwezesha WhatsApp Business

Ni rahisi sana kuseti business profile kwenye application ya WhatsApp Business. Unachotakiwa kufanya ni kwenda Playstore ama Appstore na kudownload WhatsApp Business. Baada ya hapo fungua application na uende kwenye Settings.

Kama unatumia android bofya kwenya vidoti vitatu upande wa juu kulia > Settings > Business settings >  Hapo utaona setting zote unazotaka kufanya.

Tunapozungumzia biashara za karne ya 21, tunagusa moja kwa moja maswala ya digitali, likiwemo suala la mitandao ya kijamii. Mitandao hii imekuwa nguzo muhimu kwa wafanyabiashara kuweza kutangaza bidhaa na huduma zao pamoja na kujenga mahusiano mazuri na wateja wao. 

Ninafahamu unatumia mitandao ya kijamii hasa ile maarufu kama Instagram, Facebook na Twitter. Huenda ukawa umekutana na makala hii kwenye moja ya mitandao hiyo.

Kwa kipindi cha miaka minne tangu kuanzishwa kwake mwaka 2016, TikTok imeweza kuwa na watumiaji zaidi ya milioni 500 duniani kote. Wengi wa watumiaji hawa wakiwa ni vijana. 

Ripoti ya Globalwebindex ya mwaka 2019, inaonyesha asilimia 41 ya watumiaji wa TikTok wana umri kati ya miaka 16 na 24 (Globalwebindex, 2019). Kati ya watumiaji hao, watu zaidi ya milioni 150 hutumia application hiyo kwa siku. 

Aidha, imeripotiwa kuwa application ya TikTok imeongoza kwa kupakuliwa (downloaded) kwenye App Store ya Apple mwaka huu wa 2019. Kuhusu takwimu zaidi, tembelea chapisho la Kiingereza kupitia kiungo hiki

TikTok ina kipi cha tofauti?

TikTok inawapa watumiaji uhuru wa kutengeneza vipande vifupi vya video (visivyozidi sekunde 15) vikinakshiwa na nyimbo na urembo mwingine (filters) wa kuvutia kwa kutumia simu zao za mkononi. Video hizi zimejaa furaha na ucheshi (funny). 

Ukitofautisha na mitandao mingine kama Twitter na Instagram, mitambo (algorithm) ya TikTok inakuonesha vitu unavyovitaka tu. Sio mara unakutana na post ambayo hata hujui imetoka wapi kama inavyotokea huko Twitter na Insta. Pia matumizi ya hashtag yanatamba sana kwenye mitandao huu. 

Wanasema utamu wa ngoma ingia mwenyewe ucheze. Pakua application ya TikTok uonje utamu wake.

Ukiitizama vizuri application ya TikTok utaona ina muonekano sawasawa na application inayoitwa Musical.ly. Hii ni kwa sababu TikTok ambayo ni kampuni ya Kichina, iliinunua application ya Musical.ly ili kuweza kuwafikia watu wengi hasa vijana wa kimarekani. 

Swali; Je TikTok inaweza kuwa fursa mpya kwa wafanyabiashara? 

Kwasasa TikTok haina mfumo wowote unaowezesha kuweka matangazo ya kulipia (sponsored ads) kama tunayoyaona huko kwenye mitandao mingine. 

Lakini kama tunavyofahamu, hakuna kitu cha bure. Nionavyo mimi, jukwaa hili halitakuwa la bure kwa mda mrefu.

Kwa kuwa mtandao huu unapendwa na vijana wengi ambao ndio wenye nguvu ya ushawishi katika masoko, ninaona kuna kila dalili ya makampuni makubwa (brands) kuishawishi ikubali TikTok ikubali matangazo. 

Baadhi ya takwimu zinatabiri mtandao wa TikTok utakuja kuteka na kuizidi mitandao kama vile Instagram na Snapchat.

Changamoto kubwa ya mitandao ya kijamii ni tabia yake ya kubadilika kila mara, kwa kuja na mifumo mipya au kupotea kabisa kama mtandao uliokuwa ukimilikiwa na kampuni ya Google, uliofahamika kwa jina la Google+

Lakini pia ni lazima tukubaliane na ukweli kwamba hatuwezi kukwepa social media. Mitandao hii imewapa nguvu watumiaji kuwa na uhuru wa kuchagua ni namna gani wanataka kupokea taarifa. Hivyo kama mfanyabiashara unaetafuta kukuza jina la biashara yako na kufikia wateja wengi zaidi, huna budi kuwekeza kwenye moja ya mitandao hii.

Stay updated and motivated

Social media isn’t something you learned three years ago and keep believing you know it. Being a social media enthusiast means being a lifelong learner. These platforms are constantly evolving —adding in new hashtags, new tools, and features. You need to be alert when these new features arrive and use them to your advantage.

Without great content, the window to succeeding on social media is very narrow. Connect with your audience with great content such as video clips, infographics, images, and eBooks. Create content that will build trust, help people answer their questions and establish yourself as an authority in your field.
